    A long time coming

Wow, it's been quite some time since I've sat down to hammer out a blog. Arguably, things have been pretty crazy--as per usual--but I've also gotten kinda lazy as far as the ol' writing goes. So now, while I wait for my magic rocks to grow (not a euphemism) and for Stephen to get back from his two-hour potty brake (geez, man, eat some bran!) I figure I'll get back into the blogging business for a while.

[perhaps it's the beacon of literacy?]

First off, this has been bugging me for quite a while. Above is our new Mississippi license plate. Usually, the plates depict an image that summarizes our state. Our new plate has... a lighthouse. Maybe I missed something, but when were rocky coastlines ever a symbol of Mississippi?

    [a tree-shirt]

On a personal note, things have been good. Not great, mind you, as my legal issues are still being clouded by personal vendettas, but other than that, I've been feeling unusually happy with things lately.

I think it has something to do with positive reinforcement. I look around my new apartment and I nod sagely at the way that I've managed to organize, set up, clean, and personalize this space. And I've been functioning fine on my own for almost seven months now--I haven't burnt the place down, poisoned myself, etc.

After almost two years of constantly being reminded of what a screw-up I am, being able to have time-tested proof that I do have some self-sustaining capabilities is a breath of fresh air... even if I do still let the trash overflow before I take it out.

[then run before the West Virginians drag you screaming back across the border]

Three days from now, and I will be headin' home, folks! I was in PA for a week over the summer, but I was at a camp the whole time, so this is my first REAL visit home since last Christmas. Needless to say, this has been a long time coming. Besides, after the year I've had, I need a little familial verbal abuse to get things back to normal.

(Familial verbal abuse, besides three great Scrabble words, is my family's means of expressing love and admiration. I wouldn't have it any other way)

HOPEFULLY I'll get some skiing in while I'm up there. I hear they've already got some snow waiting for me.

My trip up, however, I am NOT looking forward to, due to:

    [totally a straight man's car]

    ...my very small car.

If this were just a road trip, having a small car would be ideal. But, as anyone who knows me can tell you, I never do things the easy way.

My trip involves two stops. My first stop is in Atlanta, GA, where I will be picking up five PC Desktop's (with monitors) from a business that is donating them to my church back home. That'll be a tight squeeze. However, it doesn't end here, for in Brevard, NC, I will be playing the part of UPS man as my grandparents will be filling what little space I have left with Christmas gifts to bring north.

    Weeeee!

I'm a little nervous. One, I don't think this is all going to fit, and two, LAST time my family loaded up my car (and stuck a U-Haul trailer on the back), THIS happened...

[the service engine light finally turned off, though]

Somewhere around Nowhere, West Virginia, my car's engine literally exploded, with flames and smoke pouring from under the hood and my every worldly belonging stuffed into the car with me.

Fortunately, I was saved by a van-full of extinguisher-toting Mexicans. (I am not making this up). But you can see where I'd be a little nervous.

Finally, a few parting thoughts, Drakian-style:
    •  August Rush and I Am Legend are worth the price of admission. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Golden Compass? Not so much.
    • We're a go for "The Complete Works of Shakespeare: Abridged" in the spring!
    • I'm heading into Pittsburgh for New Years with Michael, Stephen, and Kels. Anyone else wanna join up?
    • So, Guitar Hero II? NAILED it! That's right... "Free Bird" ain't got NUTHIN' on me now, boy!
    • I don't mind drum beats from my neighboring apartments so much as I mind the fact that whoever is playing has NO rhythm.
    • Feels good to be saving money again. I kinda feel like Scrooge, but I feel like a SECURE Scrooge.
    • Looks like I'll not be stopping in Greenville this year. I somehow managed to pick the perfect window of time in which almost NO ONE is going to be there! Dah! Curse you people and your "lives"
    • Check out Erik Mongrain's "Air Tap!" on YouTube.
    •  While you're there, watch the entire season (27 episodes) of "Yu-Gi-Og:The Abridged Series". It's probably my favorite thing on the internet right now.
Now go, citizen, and do good.

There is something satisfying about knowing that you will not die if you live on your own.  It sounds like you're doing a better job than I did.  Hope things continue going well.
